Key Highlights

  • NCAP crash tests are not legally mandated in most countries, but are voluntarily initiated by manufacturers.
  • The 2025MY Indonesian spec Suzuki Fronx scored 5 stars in the October 2025 ASEAN NCAP.
  • The Indian spec Maruti Suzuki Fronx has not been tested in Global or Bharat NCAP.

Based on the popular Baleno hatchback, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx is one of the most sought-after models in the brand’s NEXA portfolio. It has all the right elements to impress the average Maruti buyer: SUV-ish styling elements, good ground clearance, reliable powertrains, great fuel economy and of course, attainable pricing.

The Fronx subcompact crossover is also included in the alliance between Suzuki and Toyota, wherein the former gets a chance to compete in higher segments with rebadged avatars of the latter, and vice versa in lower price categories. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is sold as the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor. In fact, a good chunk of Toyota sales is contributed by badge-engineered Maruti models.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx: NCAP Safety Ratings

Maruti Suzuki has yet to send the Indian spec Fronx to Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP. However, Suzuki Indonesia had sent their version to ASEAN NCAP in October 2025. It scored 29.37/32 in Adult Occupant Protection, 38.94/51.00 in Child Occupant Protection, 16.50/21.00 in Safety Assist and 8.00/16.00 in Motorcyclist Safety. This brings the overall Suzuki Fronx ASEAN NCAP score to 5 stars.

The Indian spec Maruti Suzuki Fronx misses out on many safety features compared to the Level 2 ADAS Indonesian Fronx (built using CKD parts from India). Hence, one can expect significantly lower results for the Maruti version in an equivalent test. The Suzuki Fronx (made in India, but with Level 2 ADAS and AWD) secured 4 stars in May 2025 Japan NCAP tests. The Australian-spec Suzuki Fronx, on the other hand, could score just 1 star in ANCAP (December 2025). This even brought the car to a sales halt in New Zealand.

NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) ratings greatly vary with standard equipment and regional legal requirements. Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP are generally considered much more lenient. It is worth adding that in most countries, NCAP ratings are not mandated by law. Manufacturers voluntarily send their products for assessment.

A Surprising Success

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is a rather interesting pick in the Indian automotive giant’s NEXA range. The subcompact crossover was meant to be a lifestyle choice to fill the gap between the Baleno hatchback and the Ciaz C-segment sedan (now discontinued). In fact, it is widely discussed that the company never expected the Fronx to be as successful as it is now. The crossover was launched in April 2023 without much fanfare, while the Indian market was eagerly awaiting the Jimny compact SUV until June 2023. Eventually, Jimny sales flopped, and Fronx sales soared.
