Key Highlights

  • NCAP crash tests are not mandated by law and are voluntarily done by manufacturers.
  • The first-gen Renault Triber secured a 4-star Global NCAP crash safety rating in June 2021.
  • The new 2025 Renault Triber has not been tested in Global or Bharat NCAP.

The Renault Triber is arguably one of the most underrated products in the affordable segment of the Indian automotive market. Essentially a sub-4m car intelligently designed as a 3-row MPV, the Triber is a favourite among small families and cab services alike. It offers supreme value for money in terms of space and practicality, especially thanks to multiple seating configurations and a usable third row. The Renault Triber MPV continues to be based on Renault-Nissan CMF-A platform, which also underpins the Renault Triber, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and Nissan Gravite. The Gravite is essentially a rebadged Triber.

Renault Triber: NCAP Safety Ratings

The first-gen Renault Triber MPV (launched in August 2019) was crash-tested by Global NCAP in June 2021. The 7-seater secured 11.62/17.00 (4 stars) in Adult Occupant Protection and 27.00/49.00 (3 stars) in Child Occupant Protection. Renault India has yet to send the all-new Triber for NCAP tests, but considering the enhanced design and additional safety features, the car is expected to score at least 4 stars overall.

For reference, the variant initially tested had only two airbags and scored only 2 stars (both categories) in African NCAP. It is worth knowing that NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) crash tests are not mandated by law in most countries. Manufacturers voluntarily send their products for testing.

Renault Triber: Top Safety Features & Highlights

The all-new Renault Triber comes with 21 standard safety features (most of which are mandated by law) as part of the French automaker’s ‘human first program’. Highlights include Hill-Start Assist, Electronic Stability Program, Traction Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps and six airbags.

Key highlights of the 2025MY Renault Triber revolve around its intelligent space management. Renault states the MPV offers around 100 seating or loading configurations thanks to the slidable, reclinable and fold/tumble second-row seat. The third row is removable, and second-row passengers can enjoy up to 200mm of knee room. About 23 litres of storage options are spread across the cabin. The roof rails are not just a part of styling and can carry up to 50kg. Although there are AC vents for the second and third rows (as well as cooled storage), the Renault Triber misses out on automatic climate control.

The 8.0-inch touchscreen supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wireless in top trim). Other notable features include projector headlamps, 7.0-inch TFT instrument console, driver seat height adjust, driver armrest, keyless entry, wireless charging, push button start/stop and electrically adjustable ORVMs with auto-fold. Cruise control and sunroof may arrive in the next major update.

Renault Triber: Specs & Dimensions

The 2025MY Renault Triber is powered by a 1.0-litre NA petrol 3-cylinder engine producing 72ps @ 6,250rpm and 96Nm @ 3,500rpm. Many expected Renault India to introduce a range-topping turbo petrol variant, as in the bigger Kiger compact crossover. That 1.0-litre turbo 3-cylinder petrol mill is good for 100ps @ 5,000rpm and 160Nm @ 2,800rpm (5-speed manual) or 152Nm @ 2,200rpm (CVT). As for the Triber, transmission choices include a 5-speed manual or its ‘easy-R’ AMT avatar. Only the range-topping Emotion variant is offered with an AMT.

Despite measuring under 4 metres in length, the subcompact MPV boasts an impressive 625 litres of boot capacity with rear seats folded and a reasonable 84 litres with them up. Ground clearance (unladen) is also ample at 182mm. The Triber rides on 15-inch wheels, though tyre sizes change from 165/80 section to 185/65 depending on the variant.

Renault Triber: Variants & Prices

The all-new Renault Triber is available in four variants across seven trims, based on equipment levels: Authentic, Evolution, Techno and Emotion. Here are their ex-showroom (Delhi) prices:

  • Authentic: ₹5.76 lakh
  • Evolution: ₹6.63 lakh
  • Techno: ₹7.32 lakh
  • Emotion: ₹7.91 lakh
  • Emotion Dual Tone: ₹8.12 lakh
  • Emotion AMT: ₹8.39 lakh
  • Emotion AMT Dual Tone: ₹8.60 lakh

In select cities, Renault India offers a retrofit CNG kit for the manual variants. This upgrade is covered in the standard warranty of 3 years / 1,00,000km.

A Benchmark in Automotive Space Efficiency

The Renault Triber does have its shortcomings, particularly in the performance department. However, the car was never intended to be fast or dynamic. Sure, a higher turbo petrol variant would have been a welcome addition, but Renault India’s market study concluded that their target customers were more than happy with the standard NA petrol unit. The Renault Triber is one of those cars that may appear uninteresting on paper, yet rarely disappoints its owner in the long term. It serves exactly the purpose Renault claims it can: seats seven in reasonable comfort; carries luggage in several adaptable formats. For the price, there isn’t much space left unaddressed.
