Key Highlights:

  • NCAP crash tests are not legally mandated in most countries, but are voluntarily initiated by manufacturers
  • The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire scored 5 stars for AOP and 4 stars for COP in November 2024 Global NCAP
  • The 4th-gen Maruti Suzuki Dzire scored 5 stars for both categories in June 2025 Bharat NCAP.

Though not a sedan in the traditional sense, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is perhaps the best-looking choice in its category. It sports a great ‘three-box’ silhouette despite being under 4 metres in length. Unlike competitors, the Dzire looks totally different from its hatchback counterpart, the Swift. In other words, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire (previously dubbed Swift Dzire) is not a Swift with an extended boot.

The Indian automaker has radically improved the subcompact sedan for its fourth generation. Apart from the new design, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire packs more features, an all-new power plant focused on efficiency and most importantly, improved safety features.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire: NCAP Safety Ratings

Presently, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is the safest new car from the Indian automaker as per NCAP ratings. In the November 2024 Global NCAP tests, the subcompact sedan secured 31.24/34.00 (5 stars) in Adult Occupant Protection and 39.20/49.00 (4 stars) in Child Occupant Protection. Meanwhile, the 2025MY Dzire scored 5 stars for both categories (29.46/32.00 in Adult Occupant Protection; 41.57/49.00 in Child Occupant Protection) in June 2025 Bharat NCAP. Maruti Suzuki has not tested the 4th-gen Swift in Global or Bharat NCAP.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire: Safety Features & Highlights

In terms of safety, the new Maruti Dzire features 6 airbags, ESP, hill hold assist, reverse parking sensors, 360-degree camera and a plethora of information via the Suzuki Connect connectivity suite. The list of features extends to security alerts, vehicle status, location tracking, driving score analysis, smartwatch connectivity and remote access. Other notable highlights include a 9.0-inch touchscreen (with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), Arkamys audio, sunroof, keyless entry, automatic climate control, rear AC vent, cruise control, TPMS, full-LED headlamps, electric ORVMs, driver seat height adjust and wireless charging.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire: Specs, Fuel Efficiency and Dimensions

The 4th-gen Maruti Dzire, like the Swift, is powered by a 1.2-litre Z12E NA petrol 3-cylinder engine good for 81.58ps @ 5,700rpm and 111.7Nm @ 4,300rpm. This is mated to either a 5-speed manual or AMT. ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency figures stand at 24.79km/l and 25.71km/l, respectively. On the other hand, the Dzire Petrol + CNG Bi-Fuel version generates 69.75ps @ 5,700rpm and 101.8Nm @ 2,900rpm while mated to a 5-speed manual. Fuel efficiency rises to 33.73km/kg.

The Maruti Dzire offers an unladen ground clearance of 163mm, a turning radius of 4.8m and a boot capacity of 382 litres. Boot space drops significantly in the CNG variant to accommodate the tank. It is also worth noting that the CNG variant is almost 100kg heavier in kerb weight compared to the usual 920-960kg. Higher trims ride on 15-inch alloy wheels while lower options make do with 14-inch steelies.

Subcompact Segment Strengthened

The Dzire is currently the only sedan option in the Indian automaker’s extensive product portfolio. Maruti Suzuki discontinued the Ciaz C-segment sedan around April 2025 and has no plans to replace it with a new version. The sedan market in India has lately witnessed a rapid decline to pave the way for raised hatchbacks or compact crossovers. However, the demand for sub-four-metre sedans has remained reasonably strong thanks to the Dzire. The main competitors of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire include the Hyundai Aura, Honda Amaze and Tata Tigor.
