Key Highlights:

  • NCAP crash rating is not legally required in most countries, but remains a voluntary assessment by manufacturers.
  • The 2024MY Mahindra Bolero Neo (TUV 300 facelift) scored a pathetic 1 star in Global NCAP.
  • Mahindra has not tested the Bolero Neo SUV in Bharat NCAP.

Modern Mahindra SUVs have set new benchmarks in terms of performance, safety and technology. The Indian automaker’s latest e-SUVs are built to global standards and have formed a market of their own, with players such as Tata Motors trying their best to absorb a chunk of it. On the other hand, Mahindra still sells good numbers of the rather rudimentary Bolero range, which now consists of three products: Bolero, Bolero Neo and Bolero Neo Plus. Their market is predominantly fleet operations, mainly due to the rugged design, lower build quality and competitive pricing.

The Mahindra Bolero Neo is essentially a facelifted TUV 300, which was not the most desirable or good-looking product in the portfolio to begin with. In October 2025, Mahindra updated the Bolero and Bolero Neo with better styling, more features and new colours. Ex-showroom prices start at Rs. 7.99 lakh and Rs. 8.49 lakh, respectively.

Mahindra Bolero Neo: NCAP Safety Ratings

The 2024MY Mahindra Bolero Neo secured a poor rating in Global NCAP back in April 2024. It scored 20.26/34.00 (1 star) in Adult Occupant Protection and 12.71/49.00 (1 star) in Child Occupant Protection. The variant tested had only two airbags (same case today).

Mahindra has not tested the updated Bolero Neo in Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP, but without multiple airbags, a redesigned chassis and other modern safety equipment, one cannot expect significantly better results. Yet the target buyer remains unconcerned, as evident from its decent sales figures. It is worth noting that NCAP ratings are not a legal requirement in most countries. Automakers voluntarily send their products for testing.

Mahindra Bolero Neo: Top Features & Highlights

Advanced features may not be a selling point of the Mahindra Bolero Neo. It packs just the basics. The list of notable features includes a 9.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear-view parking sensors and camera, Type-C charging, steering-mounted controls, cruise control, Eco mode, driver seat height adjust, 16-inch alloy wheels, etc. At least as a higher variant, Mahindra should ideally introduce automatic climate control, 6 airbags, rear AC vents, auto-dimming IRVM and better headlamps in the Bolero Neo.

Underneath the sub-4m body, the Mahindra Neo boasts of frequency-dependent damping in the front suspension and an optional mechanical locking differential for the rear axle. This makes it quite capable over rough terrain without having a full 4x4 powertrain.

Mahindra Bolero Neo: Specs and Chassis

The 2026MY Mahindra Bolero Neo continues to be powered by a 1.5-litre mHawk 100 diesel four-cylinder engine. It generates about 100ps @ 3,750rpm and 260Nm @ 1,750rpm while mated to a 5-speed manual transmission that powers the rear wheels. There is no automatic transmission option.

Being a basic ladder-frame SUV, the Bolero Neo is not particularly dynamic or planted for spirited driving. The front double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspension setups do not do wonders other than being relatively better than older Mahindra SUVs with traditional leaf springs.

Mahindra Bolero Neo: Variants, Prices & Colours

The Mahindra Bolero Neo is offered in 5 variants. Ex-showroom (Delhi) prices are as follows:

  • N4: Rs. 8.49 lakh
  • N8: Rs. 9.29 lakh
  • N10: Rs. 9.79 lakh
  • N11: Rs. 9.99 lakh
  • N10 (O): Rs. 10.49 lakh (with mechanical locking differential)

In total, there are 7 colour choices (including two dual-tones): Jeans Blue, Jeans Blue DT, Diamond White, Diamond White DT, Pearl White, Rockey Beige and Stealth Black. Lower variants cannot be configured with certain colours.

Minimal Need or Space for Improvement

Despite shortcomings, the Bolero range (which consists of the Bolero, Bolero Neo and Bolero Neo Plus) collectively became the third best-selling model lineup in Mahindra’s 2025 sales charts. However, a good majority of sales came from fleet operators, government agencies and rural industries. The Mahindra Bolero Neo may not be a favourite among private passenger vehicles, but it is in many ways more capable and practical than conventional monocoque vehicles in the right environment, thanks to its body-on-frame construction and RWD diesel powertrain.

A logical improvement to it already exists in the form of other monocoque-chassis or advanced ladder-on-frame Mahindra products. The Mahindra Bolero range has minimal space for improvement since they are meant to be workhorses that can do the basics extremely well — this has always been their strong suit.
